The OOSTERBROEK Families

Our OOSTERBROEK family goes back to about 1660. The families lived in Gelderland, Netherlands in the following cities: Vaasen - Epe, Oenerdijk - Epe, and Nijbroek - Voorst. In July 1873 Fredrik and his wife, Neeltje Blokker OOSTERBROEK, emmigrated to the United States from Apeldoorn, Gelderland, Netherlands with 5 surviving of their 6 children. They settled in Holland, Ottawa, MI.

Fredrik died in March 1874 after only 8 months in the United States. At that time women were not allowed to own property or have a job. In this situation and speaking little or no english, Neeltje had to marry in order to support their 5 OOSTERBROEK children. Subsequently, Neeltje "Nellie" married 3 other men. The 1st one left her with a son in 1877, the 2nd one died in 1900 after they had 2 children in 1880 and 1883, and the 3rd one just ran off. In Nov 1901 Neeltje died.

Fredrik and Neeltje's daughter, Trijntje "Kate", married Jan Krol "John" BAKER in Mar 1884.
